Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) is excited to host the Innovate.DTCC: AI-Powered Hackathon. It is the first in a series of collaborative initiatives aimed at leveraging AI and ML technologies to address critical challenges in the financial markets industry. This inaugural event will serve as a platform for industry experts, students and thought leaders to come together and develop innovative solutions that can enhance the efficiency, transparency, and overall performance of our business.


By participating in this hackathon, you will explore the transformative potential of AI and ML in financial markets, unlock new opportunities, engage with colleagues from diverse perspectives, foster cross-functional connections and expand your professional network.

Use Case Overview

A predetermined list of use cases has been selected for this hackathon, as follows:

  • Predictive Modeling & Forecasting / Anomaly Detection: Analyze historical data and identify patterns and/or anomalies that can be used to predict future trends, movements, risks and events in capital markets.
  • Risk Mitigation: Leverage AI to prepare for future cyber security threats and to enhance risk mitigation
  • Self-Service Investigation (Chat NLP): Enable users to interact with data and perform investigations or analyses through conversational interfaces
  • Optimization & Automation: Leverage AI-driven automation or algorithms to optimize and/or automate processes


Important Dates and Timing


  • Registration starts: November 5, 2024
  • Registration ends: January 17, 2025
  • Legal agreement submission deadline: January 27, 2025
  • Hackathon event dates: February 3, 2025 – February 7, 2025
  • Final Presentation and Awards Ceremony: February 7, 2025

Environment and Communication Channels

  • All hackathon activities, including presentations and judging, will take place virtually.
  • Participants are required to provide their own laptops for the event.
  • DTCC will not supply laptops or Virtual Desktop Instances (VDIs).
  • Each team will be assigned their own AWS account for use throughout the hackathon.
  • Technical support will be available remotely to assist with AWS account and any issues with the collaboration tool.


Eligibility

  • Hackathon will use AWS platform provided by DTCC. Teams must be familiar with AWS platform and services.
  • Participants are required to bring their own white data for the hackathon, ensuring it is publicly available and free from restrictions, and should use this data responsibly throughout the event to develop and demonstrate their AI/ML solutions while maintaining ethical standards and legal compliance. 
  • Participation is team-based only; no individual entries are allowed.
    • Teams must consist of a minimum of 3 members and a maximum of 10 members.
    • Participants are encouraged to work with their existing network to form a “Super Team”. A Super Team is defined as a team which is comprised of more than one organization. Establishing a Super Team will help foster cross-industry collaboration as well as achieve a stronger output leveraging wider perspectives.
  • One team point of contact must be identified for all teams (i.e., single-organization teams or Super Teams).
    • The team point of contact is responsible for registering on the team’s behalf.
    • The team point of contact is responsible for ensuring the legal agreement is signed by a representative from all participating organizations within the team.
  • Legal agreement must be signed and submitted to the DTCC AI Hackathon team by January 27, 2025.
  • During registration, the team point of contact will select up to three use cases  from a pre-determined list of use cases offered by DTCC. Team point of contact will also have the option of proposing a new use case idea during registration.
